Design Manager / Design Leader / Lead Design Engineer required to join a global, leading engineering manufacturer.
The successful Design Manager / Design Leader / Lead Design Engineer will be responsible for leading a team of Design Engineers, Workshop Manager and Technical Engineers, overseeing the full design lifecycle from concept development through to production, testing, and final product delivery. Full product training will be provided.
The Design Manager / Design Leader / Lead Design Engineer will ideally have mechanical design experience within Hydraulics, Cylinders, Pumps, Valves, Actuators or associated Fluid Power systems with knowledge on Solidworks or CAD. This role would also suit an experienced Hydraulic Design Engineer looking to step into a management position.

Design Manager / Design Leader / Lead Design Engineer Role
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of hydraulic design engineers, promoting a collaborative and high-performance working environment.
- Act as the technical authority on hydraulic and fluid power systems, ensuring all designs meet required performance, safety, and reliability standards.
- Oversee the full design lifecycle, including concept development, prototyping, production, testing, and final delivery of hydraulic systems.
- Work closely with production, procurement, and quality teams to ensure a smooth transition from hydraulic system design through to manufacture.
- Review and approve engineering drawings, calculations, and technical documentation, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards.
- Site-based role in Newton Abbot.
Design Manager / Design Leader / Lead Design Engineer Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
- Proven experience leading and managing Design Engineers, Workshop Manager and Technical Engineers within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Hands-on experience in the design and development of Hydraulics, Cylinders, Pumps, Valves, Actuators or associated Fluid Power systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Degree or relevant engineering qualification, such as Mechanical Engineering or a similar field, is advantageous.
- Ability to work in Newton Abbot or relocate.
