Gas Turbine Controls Startup Lead

$70 - $75 per hour + per diem

Work Location: Remote (United States)

 

Are you a Controls Engineering expert (specifically Allen Bradley RSLogix) with deep domain knowledge of the LM6000 turbine? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, leading the successful startup and commissioning of complex control systems on a global scale? An industry leader in power generation project execution is seeking a highly skilled individual to join their team. This is a field-based position where you will be on site almost 100% of the time, going project to project, leading a team executing best in class startups.

 

This is a direct hire position.

 


Position Summary

The Controls Startup Lead is a critical, field-based role responsible for the installation, testing, and commissioning of advanced PLC and turbine control systems for large-scale gas turbine power generation projects. This position demands expert-level competence in process control, programming, and system integration, requiring significant travel to project sites for direct implementation and technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Control System Commissioning: Perform and coordinate the full scope of testing for all control system, indication, and annunciation loops.
  • System Optimization & Tuning: Verify, modify, and expertly tune plant control loops based on revised design requirements, achieving optimal performance.
  • Advanced Control Strategy: Demonstrate, instruct, and optimize an expert knowledge of control methods (analog and discrete) to develop sustainable and robust control algorithms.
  • Programming & Configuration: Perform configuration and programming on complex Gas Turbine Controls systems, including implementing control methodologies across DCS, PLC, and HMI platforms.
  • Technical Collaboration: Partner closely with instrument technicians, operations, maintenance, construction teams, and vendors, providing field support and technical guidance to resolve critical problems.
  • Documentation & Design: Proficiently read and interpret P&IDs and apply this knowledge while working with instrumentation and control equipment in dynamic industrial environments.

 

Required Expertise

  • MUST HAVE: Expert-level experience with Allen Bradley RSLogix programming and platforms.
  • MUST HAVE: Experience with LM6000 or other GE aeroderivative gas turbines, including programming and sequencing.
  • In-depth Technical Knowledge: Expertise in process instrumentation and controls, including familiarity with pressure, temperature, level, and flow measurement technology.
  • High proficiency in supporting Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel up to 100%, including international project sites.

 

Working Environment & Requirements

  • Ability to work frequently outdoors in various weather conditions and on active construction sites, involving walking, standing, bending, and working in tight or elevated spaces.
  • US work authorization is required; sponsorship is not available.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and background check is mandatory.
