Mechanical Engineer – Power Generation

A leading power provider in Florida is seeking a Mechanical to provide high-level technical support across multiple power generation facilities. This role combines project oversight, outage planning, equipment diagnostics, and hands-on engineering support to improve efficiency, reliability, and plant performance across the fleet.

 

You will work both remotely and onsite throughout Florida, supporting outage execution, developing project scopes, resolving equipment failures, and leading engineering improvements tied to reliability, availability, and NERC-driven requirements.

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in dynamic environments, can manage overlapping projects, and is comfortable blending field work with technical project leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical mechanical/industrial engineering support to power plants across
  • Florida, both onsite and remote.
  • Lead and support outage activities, equipment repairs, and efficiency/reliability improvement projects.
  • Develop detailed scopes for procurement and outsourcing, ensuring alignment with outage schedules and required lead times.
  • Monitor ongoing projects for schedule, budget, and scope performance; collaborate with plant staff to resolve delays and variances.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) of equipment and auxiliary system failures; support expedited remediation efforts.
  • Plan and engineer plant modifications, system upgrades, and equipment improvements; complete economic justifications and prepare technical specifications.
  • Maintain and organize plant drawings and ensure adherence to Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Perform diagnostic evaluations and coordinate with OEMs and vendors to return generation units to service promptly.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and turbomachinery.
  • Deep understanding of natural gas–fired power generation systems, steam and gas turbines, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to coordinate contractors and work safely in industrial environments, including confined spaces, elevated areas, and adverse conditions.
  • Skilled in CMMS systems, outage planning tools, and advanced project tracking software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make independent decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships across plants, partners, and stakeholders.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in the Power Generation industry, including direct exposure to plant operations, heavy industrial maintenance, or contractor oversight.
  • Extensive experience with steam/gas turbine systems, O&M practices, RCA, and MOC procedures.
  • Experience with CMMS and outage planning systems.
  • Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.

 

Requires onsite travel across Florida power plants.
