Our client is a global technology leader in industrial automation and machine safety, providing innovative safety and automation solutions to manufacturers and machine builders across a wide range of industries.
We are currently supporting a confidential search for a Safety Application Engineer to join their growing engineering and consulting team in Michigan.
The role is suitable for a degree graduate, with hands on experience with industrial machines
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with hands-on industrial automation experience who enjoys working directly with customers and solving complex machinery safety and controls challenges.
The successful candidate will work across the full lifecycle of machine safety projects, from risk assessment and safety design through programming, implementation, validation and customer training.
Safety Application Engineer / Application Engineer / Safety Engineer / Safety Technician - Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to customers through phone, email and on-site engagement, diagnosing issues and developing practical solutions.
- Provide technical expertise relating to industrial machinery safety, automation and applicable safety standards.
- Conduct machine hazard analysis and risk assessments at customer facilities.
- Identify machinery hazards and recommend appropriate risk-reduction measures.
- Design and develop electrical and mechanical machine-safety solutions.
- Review electrical control circuits and assess safety-related performance levels.
- Perform machine safety validation and physical testing at customer sites.
- Review technical reports and documentation for compliance with relevant machinery safety standards.
- Develop PLC programming using Ladder Logic, Structured Text and Function Block programming languages.
- Install, troubleshoot and commission safety and automation hardware.
- Read and interpret electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics.
- Support machine start-up, debugging and customer acceptance activities.
- Coordinate projects involving engineering services, controls equipment and external contractors.
- Deliver technical presentations and communicate assessment findings and recommendations to customers.
- Provide technical training and create internal reference documentation.
- Support the commercial team with technical expertise and help convert customers from competing technologies.
- Develop trade-show demonstrations and customer-facing technical demos.
- Maintain current knowledge of machinery safety standards, technologies and industry best practices.
- Develop knowledge of complementary and competitive products.
- Participate in a rotational after-hours technical support schedule.
- Travel to customer sites as required, potentially up to 80%.
Safety Application Engineer / Application Engineer / Safety Engineer / Safety Technician - Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and industrial control schematics.
- Understanding of electrical design principles and industrial machine control systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Self-motivated, organized and comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities.
- Strong customer-service mindset and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Willingness and ability to learn new products, technologies and procedures.
