Senior Mechanical Engineer – Power Generation
Orlando, Florida
$130,000 – $165,000
A leading power provider in Florida is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to deliver advanced engineering design, modelling, and project management support across multiple power generation facilities.
This role blends technical design, thermodynamic and fluid modelling, project oversight, and field-based engineering, all focused on improving reliability, efficiency, and long-term fleet performance.
You will support plants both remotely and onsite statewide, leading outage-related projects, developing engineering scopes, resolving equipment failures, and designing solutions across mechanical, piping, structural, and thermal systems.
This role is ideal for a senior engineer who thrives in complex environments, manages overlapping projects with ease, and is equally comfortable doing CAD/FEA/CFD design work and boots-on-the-ground plant investigations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical/industrial engineering design and project execution across Florida power plants (remote + onsite).
- Model, design, and engineer solutions using mechanical, thermodynamic, fluid, piping, and structural engineering principles.
- Conduct field investigations of existing facilities to support design and project scoping.
- Estimate and budget plant upgrades and modifications (Class 4 estimates, ~15% design known).
- Develop detailed scopes for procurement and outsourcing aligned with outage schedules and lead times.
- Lead outage planning, equipment repairs, and reliability/efficiency improvement projects.
- Monitor project progress, scope, and budget; collaborate with plant teams to resolve delays or variances.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on equipment and auxiliary system failures; prepare technical specifications for maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Deep knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals and turbomachinery.
- Strong experience in natural gas–fired plant design, construction, operations, and major equipment systems (GT/ST, boilers, auxiliaries).
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and engineering analysis tools (FEA, CFD).
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, stress analysis, piping design, and structural interfaces.
- Ability to coordinate contractors and work safely in industrial settings including confined spaces and elevated areas.
- Skilled with maintenance management systems, advanced project tracking
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
- 10+ years of experience in the power generation industry, including direct exposure to operations, maintenance, contractors, or heavy industrial environments.
- Extensive experience with steam/gas turbines, auxiliaries, O&M practices, RCA, and MOC processes.
- Proficiency in CAD design and engineering modelling tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, FEA, CFD).
- Experience in outage planning, design development, and project engineering.
